75 MAIN RESTAURANT LOUNGE CLUB-SOUTHAMPTON N. Y.

75 Main Street, Southampton N.Y.

Fall weather 2011 version---in the Northeast USA is waaayyyy better than the rest of the year.  Now's the best time to visit those summer beach resort towns-like Southampton...at the tip of Long Island.

We ventured out to this rather picturesque Hampton's hamlet recently ---and after a triathlon that required us to get up under pitch black, star filled skies-afterwards which- we required real food/fuel-not gel goo and Gatorade...

And we lucked out with the restaurant we ended up at-75 Main Street.

Sun lit main dining room@ 3PM Sunday=ideal brunch time

Oversized paintings/images by the acclaimed photographer/artist Raphael Macuzzo literally stopped us in our tracks
It was a warm sunny day, so my pal and I opted for an outdoor sidewalk table -up front-of this spacious, white wall/white tablecloth establishment...that oozes casual chic.

With a wide wall of windows overlooking Main Street-now open---this year round destination will probably be just as welcoming in the colder months too-

Our fellow diners on a mid afternoon in early October-...couples, a few mommy/baby bunches, two techy guys in from California-HERE--- on a golf outing...leisurely taking in the laid back scene...though we figure-on a hopping summer night in mid summer, 75 Main can morph into a bumpin' late night scene-y place-with its DJ set-up, a big U shape bar that's middle/center- and an outdoor back terrace...

BUT nothing fancy really- which wouldn't fit anyway-the unpretentious, approachable sophisticated decor done well---

No surprise- the owner Zach Erdem started tending bar here-years back...and he gets what his customers want-managing to make his Hampton venture-an inviting locale-open seven days a week for lunch, brunch, dinner...

Relaxed modern setting-a corner table with leather banquette

The view out onto Main Street---prime people watching

WHAT's UP:

Uncomplicated for the lunch/brunch menus-American fare and a smart wine list ...including by the glass options($9-$14).

We started off our meal- with a crisp, dry and well balanced Gavi de Gavi--a Italian Piedmont area white we rarely see on wine by the glass lists (and should-yummy!)-and a Bloody Mary ($10) served in a solid tumbler.

Foodwise-we started with Cream of Mushroom soup---thick, warm, subtly spiced- and filled with chewy fresh portabello mushroom chunks. We thought the lack of carbs proffered-crackers, bread---probably in keeping with the summer crowds---but we asked (and got)--- as we felt the satisfying dish was too good to leave one single drop.

For entreés-we split up ---from the Brunch menu of desirable standards- a Smoked Salmon Platter ($13), Eggs Any Style ($10) with home fires, bacon or sausage---and toast....or sinfully delish Belgian Waffles with fresh sliced strawberries and whipped cream ($10) as our neighboring diner inhaled...and got the generous option of a Chopped Salad-with Gorgonzola Cheese, chopped walnuts/cranberries, red roasted peppers, sliced red onion (just the right amount-not overwhelming), lightly dressed with balsamic vinaigrette ($13).

PLUS: A seafood omelet-an option from the Lunch menu- was cooked perfectly, the eggs tender and moist ---and loaded with, well-seafood (shrimp, calamari ...)

Belgian Waffles-half gone in a NY minute

Omelet-2 eggs with cheddar , mushroom, chives $11

Desserts tempted and it was tough---choosing from ice cream/sorbets, a Chocolate Molton Lava Cake---to a chocolate shell Italian Tartufo ice cream filled bombe- and a smooth, creamy cheeecake.
Tartufo $8

NY Cheesecake $8

Our turn-gone in a New York minute

Service was attentive and friendly---and as this was a lazy summery day---there was no pressure to move on- as we lingered over our coffee...caffeinating up for that drive back on the longest parking lot in America-the Lonnnnnnggggg Island Expressway.

FYI: Dinner options include special Raw Bar, Charcuterie, and Artisanal Cheese plates and appetizer/salad menus--- as well as entreés. A good eat at the bar spot too---
