LL. BEAN Winter Outerwear Highlights 2014

The last time we previewed LL. Bean's collection the iconic American company was celebrating a big birthday-with limited edition releases of classic clothing and gear-from the company's heritage.

Most warm jacket offered-premium Down filled hip length jacket is treated with DownTEK™ retains warmth when wet-in pretty blue-ripstop DWR rugged shell-flattering princess lines prevents this puffer form being too puffy-yet classic channel stitching ensures even distribution for no cold spots, elastic cuffs, adjustable hood, zippered lined hand warmer and media friendly chest pockets.
This time-we saw up-to-date-colorful selections for winter, with sharply designed and well made separates  (men/women) that rival selections from other name brands…but at better price/value ratios, imo…including performance pieces cut for slimmer silhouettes- from the Traverse by L.L. Bean collection.
Primaloft Cloudlight Jacket $149-synthetic insulation is very warm under any conditions- rugged ripstop shell repels water, wind and is durable-  -layers well over the basics- and made for backpackers/hikers with longer hem in back keep you covered and cuffs keep the cold out.
seam sealed- Gore-Tex Pro Jacket $399(women's pictured in molten red-there's a men's version)-100% waterproof hardshell+waterproof zippers and seam sealed -top of the line protection with an innovation internal backer fabric for durability and breathability-good for ease of layering, with 2 way vent zippers, multiple adjustments at cuffs+ 3 way adjustable hood, articulated fit for movement ease, plenty interior and exterior pockets-including media compatible one.






Ultralight 850 Down Sweater-is really a super lightweight down-treated with DownTEK™ jacket  (10 ounces) stuffs down into front pocket…great piece for layering or wearing on its own-travels well too. Elastic cuffs-windproof outer shell that doesn't make that crinkling noise-and the durable.sleek fit that we approve of layers underneath hard shell easy…zipper hand pockets and chest pocket with media port. $169

Ultralight 850 Fuse Jacket-down filled DownTEK™ treated 850 fill chest core panel , moisture wicking fleece back stretchy materials on the sides and and thumbholes keep arms in place-this piece works for highly aerobic activities that require mobility, embedded w/properties for comfort-with insulation in torso for coldness. Nice color combo options …key item has 2-3 season versatility, media ports, 2 hand warmer pockets, elastic hem and cuffs. $129

Jacket is ideal for highly aerobic activities-stretchy sides with core/shoulders and arms that  block out the wind and water. Tab closed high collar with chin protection---versatile piece we could see biking in as well as hiking. Staple layer over basics-or for warmer temps-on its own.
Highloft Soft-Shell Jacket $149 mid-layer or on its own-cozy wind/water resistant with super soft hand feel, cozy high loft fleece backing. With stretch too.

Ultralight 850 Fill Down Hooded Jacket $219 pictured in Brilliant Blue- attached hood with high zipper collar, elastic cuffs and adjustable hood seals out the wind+ keeps cold out…external zip hand warmer pockets, highly compressible-we like the seam details-flattering and slim fit that we prefer. DownTEK™ treated down absorbs less moisture and dries faster. Internal stowaway pocket doubles as a stuff sack. Available without a hood for $199

 Weather Challenger  3-in-1Jacket(men's version too) that really functions separately too-PrimalLoft® synthetic jacket underneath is super lightweight attaches to DWR TEK2 -shell waterproof and breathable-with core venting pit zips, inner and outer hand warming pockets (both), adjustable non-insulated bonded brim hood and adjustable hem. Attachements keep it all in place when worn together…and Mesh Zone technology-moisture wicking in core areas for comfort +adjustable cuffs/hem.. $199= a whole lotta jacket!
Maine native and snowboader champion Scott Wescott-test drives outerwear- for L.L. Bean's cutting edge jackets/pants that merge streetwear trends with outerwear fabrics and construction. The results are terrific and might surprise Gen Y-ers…that this is L.L. Bean too.
Camo Discovery Jacket $59.95=FUN waterproof rain jacket  with adjustable hood and taped seams- can seriously handle the snow, mesh liner won't get wearer clammy-packs down into its own pocket…
Traverse Soft-Shell jacket techy meets plaid in a DWR tough jacket-that has button down slacker  coolness. Would match up with Traverse Soft Shell pants not pictured-that have abrasion resistant Cordura® cuffs resistant abrasions, adjustable   zippers inside leg and bottom outer leg for venting/easy on/off-weather tough-and stretchy. 


proof-inside is as well laid out as the outside-with adjustable drawcord hems, baffled insulated interior in zoned areas, inner mesh pockets, outer zip pockets- in a urban grey DWR exterior-that works off the slopes as well.

Bean's Gore-Tex Pro Pants $349 technical pants-pictured iron gray serious waterproof…high waist back keeps snow out, cuff guards resist tears and internal gaiters resistant to snow creeping inside- and adjust for different sports-and the boots worn for the activities,  removable suspenders, full length leg zippers and zipper pockets-hem and waist belt adjustments (seamless interface with jacket). Top of the line-articulated fit for movement ease, ez on off--too .
BONUS-wide variety of size options, colors-and it all cleans easy too-machine washable!
